A man and woman have been charged in connection with a series of distraction burglaries in Bushey, Berkhamsted and Ealing.

James Kerrigan, 31, of Tubbs Road, London, and Mary Cawley, 34 of Brockhurst Close, Harrow, were arrested on Wednesday.

They were both charged with conspiracy to commit burglary in connection with the following burglaries:

  • Items were stolen from sheltered accommodation in Ealing on December 5 by a thief posing as a police officer.
  • The following day, burglars broke in to sheltered accommodation in Bushey. Jewellery was stolen from the property.
  • A thief pretending to be a police officer stole jewellery from sheltered accommodation in Berkhamstead on May 4.
  • Jewellery was again stolen from sheltered accommodation on May in Bushey after a man masquerading as a police officer gained access to the property.

The pair appeared before Hatfield Remand Court yesterday and are expected before St Albans Crown Court on June 11.

Police are reminding people to not open their door to unexpected callers and ask for identification before letting anyone in.
