An ex-England cricketer visited an independent school in Aldenham this week, with some lucky pupils receiving one-to-one coaching.

Paul Nixon, who played for England and Leicestershire, visited Edge Grove School, High Cross, on Thursday, May 28.

The 44-year-old, famous for his energy as a wicket-keeper, told pupils about his childhood experiences, his school life and his professional cricket career during a special assembly.

He told the pupils about the Flintoff Cricket Academy held during half term at the school and he outlined his passion for Zingup- a science-based programme made up of on-screen skill tests and a personalised range of physical activities that he follows.

Nixon worked with a group of pupils for 45 minutes, giving them tips on how they could improve their cricket skills.

Headmaster at Edge Grove Ben Evans said: “It was fantastic to welcome such a inspirational sportsman to our school.

“The children were mesmerised and inspired by his stories and experiences and it was wonderful for those lucky pupils who got to have that special one to one training session – giving them some great tips and tricks for their future matches”.
