Unpaid carers in Watford are being encouraged to use Carers in Hertfordshire support services as part of Carers Week 2015 from Monday, June 8, to Sunday, June 14.

The charity aims to help improve carers’ lives and give them a voice and the opportunity to be involved in service planning and decision-making.

Christine Gash, from Watford, who has been caring for her husband John for nine years since he had a stroke is supported by Carers in Hertfordshire.

Christine helps organise the Watford Carer Support Hub – a group run by carers for carers where they can get information about what is happening in their local area, advice, support and make friends.

She said: "There is a different role between carer and wife and it can get lonely, but since I came into contact with Carers in Hertfordshire I’ve met other carers.

"We have coffee once a month and that’s given me confidence. I also know the charity has people who can give me advice and support if I need it as well as courses I can attend to give me time to do something for myself or to help me learn skills to help me with my caring role."

The Watford hub members will be at Asda in Odhams Industrial Estate, St Albans Road, Watford, on Thursday, June 11, with an information stand as well as raising funds.

They would be happy to chat with carers and people interested in finding out more about Carers in Hertfordshire.
