A deputy manager at Oceana Watford is celebrating after the nightclub operator crowned him Deputy Manager of the Year for the region.

Stephen Haughton was recognised by The Deltic Group, formerly The Luminar Group, which operates 58 nightclubs and bars across the UK, at its annual awards ceremony held at Alton Towers.

Hosted by CEO Peter Marks, the company revealed its winners for 2015 after a briefing on its financial performance.

Last month saw the company announce an 18 per cent increase in profits, representing a third year of consecutive growth, and a re-brand of its corporate business.

Stephen was awarded for his outstanding contribution to the success of the club.

The 27-year-old, who has worked at the venue for two and a half years, started his career as a bar tender.

His current role includes overseeing the day-to-day operation of the club, and being a key point of contact to handle queries from head office, suppliers and contractors.

Stephen said: "I’m thrilled to receive this award. I’ve worked really hard and it’s great to get recognition of my efforts.

"The best part of my job is seeing our customers having a great time. A career in nightclubs isn’t easy, but it is worth it and I love that every day - and night - is different.

"You meet lots of amazing people every week and it’s those people who keep you going on lack of sleep."
