Lucky Watford Observer competition winner’s Larry and Diane Bowerman recently explored gourmet Hungary with Watford based tour operator Secret Vineyards (SV).

Daring to venture away from Budapest, SV went off the tourist track to discover some lesser known areas of this historic and cultural country. Based in the beautiful baroque city of Gyor, they headed off to the world heritage site of Pannonhalma Monastery with its working Abbey and award winning wines, they even joined the Monks in their mid day prayers.

The magic didn’t stop there as on day two Lake Balaton was on the SV agenda and the largest fresh water lake in Europe. Hopping on the ferry across the waters brought the agents to a truly unique and hidden gem of Konyari vineyards and Presshouse Restaurant. Set up on the hillside overlooking the lakes, not only did they sample first class Hungarian cuisine, but they were treated to a breathtaking sunset.

Larry Bowerman from Oxhey said " We had such a lovely time. We thought that it would be good but not that good. It has turned out to be a trip that we will always remember. I would say one of the best short breaks we have ever had."

SV offers unique and quality gourmet wine holidays to Italy, Hungary and Spain with new destinations planned later in the year.

All holidays are fully inclusive of flights, accommodation, gourmet meals and wine tasting, offering a unique insight into some hidden culture, wine and food within its destinations.
