Garston Manor School in Watford became the first school in Hertfordshire to be awarded the ELKAN Accredited Communication Friendly School Status.
Led by teachers Helen Dormer and Esme Reynolds, the year-long accreditation was designed to make the school more aware of the importance of speech, language and communication for all children, to give practical strategies to make the school more communication friendly and to encourage the embedding of these simple but effective strategies throughout the whole school.
The accreditation team was led by one of the founders of ELKAN, Liz Elks, and at the end of the visit she presented the certificate to the headteacher Julie Lowman.
