Watford’s 35C summer heatwave broke into a shocking spectacle last night – as thunder and lightning put on a stunning show.
Storms lit up the night sky across the county, accompanied by heavy downpours.
Firefighters attended seven incidents in Watford and St Albans, including a building fire on North Orbital Road, and the powerful line of storms left many without power.
Readers have been sending in pictures of the severe weather.

Despite the turbulent weather last night, much of the county has woken up to rather pleasant conditions today, with temperatures set to reach 25C.
