A 300-year-old pub in Mill End is to re-open this Friday after a £170,000 revamp.

The Whip and Collar, in Uxbridge Road, is to re-open under a new name – The Waterside – on Friday, July 10.

As part of the pub’s redevelopment, the bar has been renovated, new flooring has been installed and new furnishings have been put in.

The owners insist the changes will be sensitive to the original building, which is 300 years-old.

Tom Toolan, who will be running the pub alongside Conor Smyth, said: “We are really excited about this pub.

“We think we can bring it back to its former glory as an eatery and we promise good quality service, a warm welcome and great food and drink.

“The Waterside is going to be a thriving part of the local community again.”

Punch Taverns also part-funded the renovation and they pointed towards a new dining room, dubbed The Oak Room, which will overlook the new garden.

Charlie Carroll, New Business Development Manager for Punch Taverns, said: “We’re really pleased to be working with such enthusiastic Partners at The Waterside.

“Our investment will have a big impact on the success of this pub. The uniquely high levels of support we offer to our Partners will also complement the skills they already have and make sure they get every aspect of their offer right – from the pub’s signage and layout, to their drinks and menus.”
