Bottle banks and paper banks have been removed in Three Rivers, council chiefs have confirmed.
Three Rivers District Council said the amounts of paper and glass collected in bins across the district has “dropped significantly” in recent months.
They also pointed towards the success of weekly collection service for mixed recyclables, which began in October 2014, as another reason for the decision.
Bottle banks were removed from Gallows Hill Lane, Abbots Langley, North Hill, Chorleywood, Community Way, Croxley Green, High Street, Rickmansworth, and Bridlington Road, South Oxhey on Tuesday, June 30.
Two bottle banks have also been removed from outside Fairway Inn, off Moor Lane and William Penn Leisure Centre, Shepherds Lane. Paper banks have also been removed from outside the Fairway Inn, from North Hill and in Bridlington Road.
Alison Page, Head of Environmental Protection said: “It is time to retire these bring banks. With households getting a weekly recycling collection it is difficult to justify their retention, given the small quantities of paper and glass collected.
“They have also been subject to damage, vandalism and fly-tipping from time to time.
“We are confident that residents will continue to recycle as much as possible and continue to improve on our district’s excellent overall recycling rate, which currently stands at over 62%.”
