The first phase of a new housing development in Bushey featuring supported living flats, shared ownership and market sale houses has been completed by housing association.

Bushey Meadows House by Aldwyck Housing Group has replaced the group's existing supported living scheme, Herne House, and will initially provide seven supported living flats.

The completion of Bushey Meadows House marks the first of a two stage development – the second stage is the construction of 11 two and three bedroom houses for shared ownership and market sale.

The entire scheme is set to be completed in June next year.

The new supported living homes in Little Bushey Lane aim to allow residents to remain as independent as possible.

The scheme is being delivered in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council with funding from the Homes and Communities Agency.

Keith Edwards, head of development and new business at Aldwyck Housing Group, said: "We are delighted that Bushey Meadows House is now complete.

"This new facility will provide modern accommodation to vulnerable residents with appropriate levels of care and support provided.

"We could not have provided this facility without the help and support of Hertfordshire County Council, Hertsmere Council and the Homes and Communities Agency.

"The second phase will now commence with the demolition of the existing facility and the construction of 11 new homes. This will include six family homes to be sold on a shared ownership basis helping families to get a foot on the home ownership ladder in a high value area."

Iain MacBeath, director of Health and Community Services from Hertfordshire County Council, said: "We have been able to work with Aldwyck to create a very homely and personalised living environment for the people who will be tenants at Bushey Meadows House.

"I know the residents have appreciated the input they have had and are looking forward to moving into their new homes."
