Mention the Caribbean island of Barbados and three things immediately spring to mind: sunshine, calypsos ... and cricket.
The population of this small, sun-baked West Indian island worship the game and produce fleets of cricketers to rival the finest in the world. One of the most famous, fearsome Charlie Griffith, will be in action at Croxley Green next week.
Griffith, among the fastest bowlers of the past decade, leads the Barbados Cricket League touring team against Old Merchant Taylors’, at Durrants on Thursday and for local cricket followers, it promises to be a day of wonderful entertainment.
