A couple from Sarratt are preparing for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Peru where they will be trekking to Machu Picchu to raise cash for charity.

Mike, 62 and Val Rogers, 59 will be starting their trip in the Inca capital of Cusco on Saturday, October 31.

Over the next four days and three nights, the pair will be trekking towards the cost city of Machu Picchu and during the course of the route, they will see flowing rivers, ancient tunnels and mountain passes.

The event, which has been organised by Peace Hospice Care in Watford, requires each entrant to raise a minimum of £1,200.

But with less than 100 days to go before the trip, the pair have already raised in excess of £2,600, including a charity dinner at The Bricklayers Arms earlier this month.

Mike Rogers said: “They do a tremendous job at the Peace Hospice and we have always wanted to go to Machu Pichu. £e could have done it as a holiday, but we decided to do it as a challenge, because you have to camp for three nights and trekking for nine hours a day.

“The night at the Bricklayers Arms was a fantastic night. Everyone said what a great event it was.”
