Doctors from a surgery in Kings Langley will be taking their physical fitness to its limit to support a colleague who was recently diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.

Doctors Deborah Kerr, Mark Brownfield, Caroline Knowlden and Cemile Maden from The Nap Surgery plan to run the Rock Solid Challenge in Milton Keynes this September to raise as much money as possible for the Motor Neurone Disease Association after their colleague Dr David Turner found out he had neurodegenerative disease earlier this year.

Mr Turner joined The Nap in 2010 as a GP in trained after training as a mature student in Medicine, originally having been a nurse.

Dr Kerr said: "He impressed us all during his trainee year with his knowledge and compassion, so after a few months elsewhere to broaden his experience he returned as a full time GP.

"On hearing his diagnoses we were all shocked. His leaving left a big whole in our team. He is deeply missed by both staff and patients alike.

"As doctors we have felt disempowered. There is so little the medical profession can do to make a difference, and this is where the idea of raising money for the MND Association came in.

"David has been so well supported by them, and this is something we can do, not just for him but for others.

"They have provided him with expert advice from Neurologists and therapists. They have also arranged specialist equipment which he now needs and would not obtain with such speed otherwise.

"As an example within a week of him needing it a stair lift was in place.

"He is delighted that we are doing this, but just wishes he could be running too."
