Parents of a West Hyde teenager are “so proud” of their daughter after her artwork was showcased in a famous London gallery.

Kazia Mac Sherry, 18, had her work exhibited in the Royal Society of British Artists’ National Students Art Exhibition in the Mall Galleries, near Charring Cross station, from Tuesday, July 7 to Saturday July 11.

The artwork – called imperfections and flaws within beauty – was created by pencil and took several weeks to complete.

It focused on her father who had to pull some of “the most extreme faces” he could imagine while wearing a wig.

The family live off Old Uxbridge Road.

Kazia’s father, Peter Mac Sherry, agreed to be the subject of the work after seeing portraits of her brother Janek and friends.

He said: “I am very proud of her and the fact her artwork was chosen for the exhibition. I was quite shocked to go to such an illustrious location and see all this famous artwork and to see your daughters work staring back at me.

“The artwork is of me as well, so it is a bit of a double whammy.

“She is such a hard worker.

“She asked me if I would agree to be the subject for her main A-level artwork and I immediately agreed, since she had already produced a number of impressive

portraits of her brother Janek and various friends.”

The student, who goes to St Clement Danes School in Chenies Road hopes to study architecture at Portsmouth University in September.

Krysia Mac Sherry, Kazia’s mother, said: “She has always been pretty good at art, but since she has been at St Clement Danes School, it has really come out of her.

“She has got better and better each year. She has had some fantastic teachers.

“Kazia is so determined. When she puts her mind to it, you know she is going to do it.”

Kazia is the second teenager who went to St Clement Danes School to have artwork displayed at the Mall Galleries this year.

Sian Tillott, 19 and from Rickmansworth, was one of 24 young artists to receive a scholarship form the Royal Society of British Artists in July.

After being selected for the scholarship her portrait “Mum” was exhibited at the British Artists Exhibition at the Mall Galleries between Wednesday, March 11 and Saturday, March 21.
