Three parks in Bushey are amongst the best in the UK.

The announcement comes as part of the Green Flag awards in Love Parks Week - which runs from July 24 to August 2.

Green Flags are a national standard highlighting quality green spaces. Parks with a green flag flying overhead means it has the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.

King George Recreation Ground has held the prestigious award for 17 years - the longest time in Hertsmere.

Fishers Field Nature Reserve received a special Green Flag Community Award for the seventh year in recognition of the work carried out by volunteers, who manage the site in partnership with the council.

Bushey Rose Garden was awarded the Green Heritage Site accreditation because of its historic features and standard of conservation for the fifth year in a row.

Three other parks in Hertsmere also retained their Green Flag award. They included Oakmere Park and Parkfield in Potters Bar and Aberford Park in Borehamwood.

Hertsmere councillor Jean Heywood said: "We are thrilled and very proud to be awarded with six Green Flags for yet another year - what a great way to mark Love Parks Week.

"We recognise that quality parks and green spaces are important to local people and essential to healthy, happy communities so we will continue to work hard to maintain these special places where residents can come together to rest, relax, play, exercise and have fun."
