A reward has been offered for information after a woman in her 20s was sexually assaulted in West Watford last year.

Crimestoppers today offered the reward of up to £3,000 after the victim spoke out to appeal for members of the public to help her find her attacker.

The woman was assaulted as she walked home from a town centre nightclub in the early hours of the morning of July 26 last year.

She walked up the High Street to the Post Office cashpoint, but no cash was available. She then walked to the taxi rank and tried to get a taxi to take her home and stop off on the way to get money.

However, she wasn’t able to so decided to walk.

She walked home along Rickmansworth Road past Cassiobury Park. As she approached the junction of Harwoods Road the offender approached her from behind and sexually assaulted her.

He then fled on Harwoods Road.

Despite an investigation by Hertfordshire Constabulary, he has not been caught.

The victim said: "I would never want another person to experience what I did that night and knowing that this person is still out there means that it can potentially happen again so if anyone has any information to help capture this man please come forward."

Detective Constable Rebecca Watson from the specialist Sexual Offences Investigation Team said: “Firstly I would like to commend the victim for her bravery not only in supporting the police investigation but now making an appeal to help trace her attacker.

“Whilst I appreciate it is now a year since the offence occurred I would urge anyone who has any information about what happened to please call police.

"It could be that you were in the area and saw the man described hanging around or were approached by him yourself for some reason.

"I am confident someone somewhere has information which could prove vital to this investigation and on the year anniversary I would please encourage you to come forward.

"Your information will be treated in confidence. If you are worried about giving any personal details please call Crimestoppers.”

Now Crimestoppers is offering the reward for information that leads to his arrest and conviction.

Julia Hughes, manager for Crimestoppers in Hertfordshire, said: “This was an abhorrent crime which will no doubt haunt this young woman for many years to come.

“It cannot be easy for her knowing that he is still out there. I would urge anyone who knows who this man is to contact us anonymously.

“We don’t take personal details and we can’t trace information given over the phone or online. No-one will ever know you contacted us.

“Please do the right thing. Your information may help take him off the streets and could prevent attacking another innocent woman.”

The attacker is described as a black man, possibly African, who is around 5ft 6 ins tall and bald. He was wearing a navy blue short sleeved shirt, which had a circular pattern, and faded denim boot cut jeans.

Anyone who can assist is asked to contact the Herts Police non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference number C1/14/3428.

If you have any information contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through our Anonymous Online Form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
