Police are hunting arsonists who set fire to several wheelie bins and a mobility scooter outside a block of flats in Garston.

Emergency services raced to Coates Dell after two fires were reported in the road, thought to have been set shortly after 1am on Friday, July 24.

The blaze had engulfed a mobility scooter parked just outside the flats, while a few metres up the street four domestic bins were put against doors to the property and set on fire.

One witness said she saw the mobility scooter on fire outside the flats.

She said: β€œIt was around 1.30am I saw a mobility scooter all alight. I never saw anyone around it. The police came and the fire brigade put the fire out. You could see accelerant had been used.”

A crew from Garston Fire Station extinguished the fires within 10 minutes.

Police and sniffer dogs searched the area for the criminals, but as yet no arrests have been made.

Hertfordshire Constabulary is appealing for information about the two incidents, which are being investigated as linked.
