People will be able to park on The Green when a community event is being held there, council chiefs say.

Three Rivers District Council has clarified its position on parking on The Green amid claims the Strawberry Fayre at Croxley House had to be cancelled due to parking fears – a claim rejected by the authority.

Tim Ashby, spokesman for the council, said: “People are allowed to park on The Green during events, if it has been pre-planned and approved. Drivers are prohibited when no event is taking place.

“Therefore, parking is allowed for Classics on the Green on ‘The Green’.

Letters will be sent to residents explaining what the new signs mean.

The council has insisted other popular community events, such as Croxley Revels and Croxfest, “will continue to be supported”.

Mr Ashby went on to say: “These are pre-planned and authorised events where the organisers work with the council to ensure that The Green is adequately protected.”

Speaking about the Stawberry Fayre, Tim Ashby said: “Three Rivers has not cancelled or required to be cancelled, the Stawberry Fayre.

“Discussions were held with the organisers of the Fayre, and as far as TRDC is concerned, the door remains open for the Fayre in the future.”
