Watford residents met with MP Richard Harrington last week to voice their concerns about climate change.
Residents pressed concerns about carbon and methane emissions, rising sea levels and Shale gas exploration.
Sean Sweeney, group coordinator of the Watford Young Greens, said Mr Harrington expressed an interest in finding out more about the issues.
He said: “Richard told us that instinctively he is in favour of fracking as he would like to help reduce people’s energy bills.
“But at a time when scientists have told us that 80 per cent of fossil fuels have to stay in the ground to avoid catastrophic climate change, we need to be looking towards renewable energy sources to help the consumer and the environment, not furthering fuel and gas exploration.”
An agreement has been made in principle that those in attendance will form an independent body that will work with Richard Harrington, to consult him and review his voting record in parliament on matters that affect to climate change.
Mr Sweeney said people who would like further information about joining the Watford Climate Action Group, please email your interest to sean.sweeney1@me.com.
