A Watford woman is shaving her head this summer to support a project tackling poverty in India.

Kaydee Neale-Kenwright, of Colne Avenue, will set off on September 25 to work on a ten week development programme with the International Citizen Service (ICS).

ICS is a government funded scheme which allows young people aged 18-25 to contribute to long-term projects in countries like Sierra Leone, Nepal and India.

Ms Neale-Kenwright, who recently graduated from Roehampton University, will be working with local volunteers local volunteers in under-privileged areas on community projects.

The scheme offers young people the chance to develop personally and learn about team working and leadership on projects that are of genuine value to communities around the world.

On return to the UK, ICS volunteers undertake to put their new-found skills to use in own communities.

MS Neale-Kenwright is also raising money to go towards the charity, Restless Developmet, which is runs the project she will be working on in India.

On August 21 she will be doing a fundraising head shave.

Ms Neale-Kenwright said: "My head shave is a way of making sure developing countries can continue to benefit from the work of future volunteers, so it’s vital I reach my target.

"My hair has always been such a huge part of my identity, it’s going to be really weird without it, I’ll probably look like a boiled egg. But it’s so worth it and I’m hoping everyone will give generously."

Restless Development not only aims to increase awareness about child marriage, its negative impact, and its legal implications as well as preventing them.

Ms Neale-Kenwright added: "This is a unique opportunity to work alongside people from a different culture who have requested help from young volunteers to fight poverty and inequality and make a difference where it’s needed most. I’m really excited to get out there."
