The winner of this year’s Hanging Basket Competition in Bovingdon has been decided.

The Bovingdon Horticultural Society supply hanging baskets to the shop keepers in the village, with funding coming from a grant given by the parish council, a contribution from the shop keepers and the balance from the society, and every year there is a competition to judge the best.

This year the competition was judged by Vic Coe from the Middlesex Guild of Horticultural Judges and he awarded first prize to Fyfe’s Butchers, based in Bovingdon High Street.

Mike Leon, organiser of the competition, said: “The judge Vic Coe thought the standard of the baskets was higher than last year.

“They brighten up the village, which is why the parish council have always supported the idea.

“There were 40 in number, a maximum of two per shop keeper.

“It is the first time that Fyfe’s have won the competition and Andy Fyfe is thrilled to bits especially as they win a bottle of champagne.”

Second place was awarded to Pendley Estates and third place to the Memorial Hall.
