Movie fanatics are getting to ready to have the time of their life at Watford's outdoor cinema.

Dirty Dancing was the winner in Watford Borough Council's People's Choice vote and will now be aired on the Big Screen on Saturday, August 22.

The 1987 romantic hit, which features Patrick Swayze, beat off competition from Avengers Assemble, Casablanca and Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.

The film will be shown at 5.30pm.

The Big Screen on The Parade by the pond is returning for the second year and is 30 per cent bigger this year and the sound is expected to be better.

From Thursday, August 20 to Sunday, August 23 people can turn up to watch eight different films for free and feel free to bring along chairs, blankets and picnics. Classic cinema snacks such as popcorn, nachos and crisps and drinks will also be on sale.

The other films include Singing in the Rain (1952), being shown at 8pm on the Thursday. It 80s day on Friday with The Goonies (1985) at 5.30pm and Ghostbusters (1984) at 8pm. On Saturday, 3pm Shaun the Sheep Movie (2015) and Gravity (2013) at 8pm and Sunday, The Little Mermaid (1989) at 3pm and Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Julliet (1996) at 5.30pm.

The Big Screen is part of Watford Borough Council's Big Events - a series of sporting and cultural activities, which include big beach, for everyone to enjoy in the town centre.
