Arsenal legends and celebrities took on the boys at Kings Langley FC at the weekend to support the well-being of older people in Dacorum.

Representatives of The Arsenal Foundation played in a charity match again the Kings Langley team on Sunday which raised £978 for Age Dacorum UK.

Ex-Arsenal players Chris Whyte, Paul Davis and Jimmy Carter and celebrities Ralf Little from The Royle Family and comedian Russell Howard were just a few of the faces to make an appearance.

More than 300 spectators attended the event and at the end of the 90 minutes, finishing on a final score of 8-3, The Arsenal Foundation players were crowned champions.

A raffle also took place at half time, which raised a further £500, before everybody was treated to a BBQ and drinks.

Sarah Lovejoy, operations manager at Age UK Dacorum, said: “We are so grateful to McCarthy and Stone North London alongside other businesses which offered their support, as well as Kings Langley Football Club couldn’t have don’t it without everyone’s generosity.

“The event proved a great success with some excellent tackles out on the field.

“The money raised will now go into funding Age UK Dacorum’s existing Active Living Clubs and we hope to be able to open a new club which will cover the Kings Langley and Chipperfield area.

“Our aim is to help support the older generation to stay active and independent for as long as possible.”

Retirement house builder McCarthy and Stone were the lead sponsor for the charity match.

Elaine Stratford, sales and marketing director for the company, added: “We’re proud to have sponsored Age UK’s charity football match which highlights the importance and fun to be had in keeping fit and active in later years, and the monies raised today will hopefully go some way in supporting the new active living clubs at day centres across the region.”
