A popular cycle route is back on track after works were carried out to repair and restore it.

Works to a bridge which straddles the Grand Union Canal about along the Ebury Way have been completed by Watford Borough Council and Three Rivers District Council.

Councillor Martin Trevett, lead member for housing, planning and strategic schemes at Three Rivers District Council, said: “I hope the bridge reopening will encourage more people to use this lovely tree-lined route between Watford and Rickmansworth.

“This traffic-free path is linked up to the national cycle network which encompasses Windsor, London, the Lake District and many other interesting places.

“Hertfordshire’s Year of Cycling is the perfect time to try this, and other beautiful cycling routes, around the county.”

Councillor Rabi Martins, development management committee chair at Watford Borough Council added: “This is the main leisure thoroughfare between Watford and Three Rivers.

“Our two councils have worked together on this restoration project – it is a well-used walkway that is much loved by walkers, families and cyclists.

“We hope as a result of these improvements their experience will be all the more pleasurable.”
