Hertfordshire County Council is looking to recruit people to sit on panels which consider school admissions appeals and review decisions on permanent school exclusions.

The panels are made up of headteachers, teachers and governors, as well as parents and people who have no previous experience in the education sector.

David Williams, cabinet member for Education, said: “This is a really worthwhile role in which you can make a difference to children, parents and schools in the county. Whatever time you can spare, we’d love to hear from you.

“We recognise that residents of Hertfordshire are well placed to know what’s best for their communities and would welcome you getting involved.”

The council is particularly welcome enquiries from minority ethnic groups, which are currently under represented on the panels.

Expenses for travel and subsistence will be reimbursed and full training will be provided on Friday, December 4, at Hertfordshire Development Centre in Robertson House, Stevenage.

Anyone interested should contact 01992 588548 for an informal chat or to request an information pack. Alternatively visit www.hertsdirect.org/schoolappeals.

The application form within the pack must be completed and returned to the council by Friday, October 23.
