Nearly 4,000 film enthusiasts turned out to watch Watford's Big Screen cinema in the town centre.

Eight films were screened over four days, including Dirty Dancing, The Little Mermaid, The Goonies and Ghostbusters.

It was the second year of the Watford Borough Council organised event, which forms part of the council's Big Events series.

Elected Mayor of Watford Dorothy Thornhill said it brought people together in the heart of the town.

She said: “The quality of the Big Screen was even better this year, with an impressive picture and sound.

"There was something for everyone and it was good to see people of all ages enjoying the films.

"Members of the audience on the Saturday told me that they thought the Big Screen was wonderful.

"It brought people together in the heart of our town and really showed what a thriving and happy place Watford is.”

The Big Sports Day is taking place in The Parade from 11am to 5pm on Saturday, September 19.

People will have the chance to get a taster of sports, including BMX, rugby, climbing, football, golf, cricket, athletics.
