A 94-year-old Watford pensioner has celebrated passing his driving test with a new car.

Richard Burgess has just passed his test to retain his driving licence for another three years and bought his sixth Nissan micra.

Mr Burgess purchased his first micra from Glyn Hopkin, in Watford, when he was 70 as he wanted to get to his sister's house in Wales at the weekends and visit walking spots in Hertfordshire.

He estimates he has travelled more than 100,000 miles in his Nissan micras over the past 24 years.

Mr Burgess said: “I have very fond memories of buying my different micras over the years. At my age I am not at a point where I can be learning new tricks in different cars - although now I tend to choose silver as it doesn’t need cleaning very often.”
