A ten-year-old boy from Bushey who achieved an A* in his maths GCSE says he is not stopping there.

Bhunit Santhiramoulesan, of Bourenhall Avenue sat the exam in the summer and now plans on studying critical thinking next year.

The pupil from Bournehall Primary School said: "It's amazing and I am really happy.

"But it is not my favourite subject - maths is just something that I am really good at. I like art and science and I know the whole periodic table."

Bhunit used to attend Longwood School in Bushey Hall Drive - private school.

However, after his mum, Chelvi, fell ill, his parents could no longer afford to keep him there due to the cost of the treatment, so he moved to a state school.

Bhunit has been at the school now for three years. He said: "I prefer it at the state school. The private school knew I was smart but they didn't push me, whereas here they do.

"I like learning and I get a sense of pleasure and feel happy when I learn something new."

The youngster, who wants to be a scientist or an engineer working with aerodynamics when he grows up, added that in his maths class they have run out tasks for him to do, so now he helps his fellow pupils.

The primary school boy, who has an IQ of 150, joined Mensa in July - a high IQ society.

Bhunit's father, Santhi said: "We are very proud of him.

"We always knew he was clever, the teachers, event when he was in nursery used to tell us that he was top of the class and working above average.

" The school have been very supportive since Bhunit moved there. They gave him a GCSE maths paper to see how he would do. Afterwards they called us in and said he could get an A."

Mr Santhiramoulesan - a station master for London Underground describes Bhunit as a normal ten-year-old boy who enjoys playing on the x-box and playing with his friends.

He added: "We hope that he can get a scholarship into one of the top, private secondary schools in the area."
