A Bushey retailer has swept the street clean with help from Keep Britain Tidy after winning an award to show how much he cares for the community.

Hitesh Pabari who owns Jessica's Mini Supermarket in Sparrows Herne, entered a competition hosted in Convenience Store magazine.

As part of the prize, not only did Mr Pabari get a year's supply of Wrigley stock and a litter kit, a team of litter pickers , came down on Thursday (yesterday) and helped clean up his store front and the surrounding area.

The litter pickers included staff from Wrigley, Keep Britain Tidy, Convenience Store magazine and Mr Pabari's store.

Mr Pabari said: "Despite our best efforts, it can be a real challenge to keep our local area tidy. We’re located on a busy street and unfortunately littering represents an ongoing challenge.

"Now we have our own litter picking equipment, we can make a real effort to keep the street looking as good as it does today."

Clare Northall, Keep Britain Tidy communications and digital officer, said: "It is a sad fact that some items end up as litter on our streets but it’s great that retailers like Hitesh care enough to not only take pride in their local area, but to do something about it.

"We’re calling on all store owners to encourage their customers to put used crisp packets, sweet wrappers, drink cans, chewing gum and cigarette butts in the bin – and do their bit to Keep Britain Tidy."
