A teenager has been arrested after a couple in Rickmansworth were targeted in a phone scam.

On Monday, August 24, and Tuesday, August 25, an elderly couple were contacted by three people who said they were police officers from a London-based police station.

They said they were investigating fraudulent activity and required the couple’s assistance with the case.

The couple were instructed to withdraw substantial amounts of money as they were told the notes were counterfeit. Later, the cash was collected.

On Thursday, August 28 the couple were contacted again and told to withdraw money that would later be collected.

At this stage the police had been informed and they stopped the collection.

A 14-year-old boy from Camden was arrested in Watford on suspicion of fraud by false representation. He remains in police custody.
