The Hornets are closing in on the signing of Roma striker Victor Ibarbo, the Watford Observer understands.

Reports in Italy state a deal to bring the 25-year-old to Vicarage Road has been completed but we believe this is not yet the case.

The pacey Colombian, who can also play out wide, is expected to seal a move to the Golden Boys before tomorrow’s transfer window closes.

However, any switch is likely to be complicated by the fact Ibarbo is only on loan at Roma from Cagliari.

The Giallorossi paid £3.6m to Cagliari earlier this summer to sign Ibarbo on a one-year loan deal following his successful six-month loan spell last season.

However, the arrivals of Edin Dzeko and Mohamed Salah have pushed the Colombia international down the pecking order and Roma are happy to let him leave.

Ibarbo’s impending arrival at Watford casts further doubt over the future of Matej Vydra.

The Czech Republic striker hasn’t yet featured for the Hornets in the Premier League and could leave Vicarage Road in the next 24 hours despite only signing a five-year contract with Watford earlier this summer.

Watford head coach Quique Sanchez Flores was asked if Vydra was likely to stay at the club following Saturday's defeat at Manchester City.

He said: "It’s possible, I don’t know. We are moving every day. We try to know what is the best squad possible we can offer the Watford fans and the best squad that can compete for the rest of the season.

"At the moment he is here because he is in thoughts but we have four days more to resolve.”
