A couple from Bushey Heath have celebrated 60 years of marriage with a special party in Watford General Hospital.

John and Margaret Lloyd, originally from Sudbury Town and Stanmore respectively, met at a church youth club.

They were married at St Joseph's in Wealdstone on August 27, 1955.

Mr and Mrs Lloyd moved to Bushey Health nearly 40 years ago and have lived there ever since.

They had three children, Carrie, Richard and Jonathan, and now have four grandchildren, three step grandchildren, one great-grandchild and another great-grandchild on the way.

John, now 84, was a chartered mechanical engineer working on aeroplanes for the Ministry of Defence.

Margaret, 81, worked as an assistant manager of a day care centre in Harrow Weald.

The couple want to thank staff at Watford General for making their anniversary party possible.

They were joined by family in Croxley Ward to mark the occasion.

Margaret said: "We celebrated our diamond wedding anniversary at Watford General. The hospital has been absolutely wonderful to us.

"About 16 of our family came to the party and it meant my husband was able to be there with us - he thoroughly enjoyed himself.

"We would like to thank everyone at Watford General Hospital, in particular the staff on Croxley Ward."

She continued: "It's been a very happy marriage. John had arranged so many things to celebrate our anniversary - we were going to go on a cruise.

"But we had to cancel when John became ill. We did have a nice party on the hospital though, they did their very best for us. It's a very good hospital, the staff they have there are delightful people."
