The ticket office at the underground station in Croxley Green is to close next month as part of a revamp scheme.

New self-service ticket machines will also be installed at the station in Watford Road, with the work set to begin this Sunday.

The work is expected to take around a month to complete and most of the work will be done at night to restrict the effect on train journeys.

In a letter sent to Three Rivers District Council, Transport for London said: “The works will take place in the ticket hall and will include changes to the way customers will be able to buy tickets.

“The station will remain open while we make these improvements and it will be possible for customers to purchase tickets from ticket machines, with our staff on hand to help.

“Tickets will also be available from our contact centre, online and customers can choose to use contactless payment.

“The ticket office will not reopen after the work is complete.”

Councillor Peter Getkahn called on the train provider to reinvest the money.

The Durrants representative at Three Rivers District Council said: “The closure of the ticket office is regrettable and I call on TFL to use these savings to modernise Croxley station and add step-free access.

“Step-free access is badly needed by residents, a point that is especially true when the Croxley Rail Link will be finished and create a better connection to Watford General Hospital.”

In a letter to residents, London Underground said: “We will do our best to minimise any disruption or noise during the work. Work times may vary during weekdays and at weekends. However, work will mostly take place at night to minimise disruption to customer journeys.”

Transport for London has been approached for a comment.
