A man who suffered a heart attack on a train station platform was saved by a Watford doctor on his way home from work.
Consultant cardiologist and medical director of West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, Michael Van der Watt, administered CPR on the 78-year-old pensioner who had collapsed on the platform at Marylebone station on Friday, September 18.
Mr Van der Watt then used a defibrillator twice to stabilise the patients heartbeat, before a London Ambulance crew took the patient to University College London Hospital.
He said: “I am privileged to have been able to assist, and I was so impressed with the speed of the response of the ambulance and the ability of the paramedics.
"It was a great team effort in a critical situation. It’s wonderful to know that the man is now back at home after his recovery in hospital.”
