Family and friends of a Watford man who was murdered in the Tunisia beach massacre took part in the Moor Park 10k last weekend.

Chris Dyer, 32, was one of 38 people killed during a terrorist attack at a beach in the Tunisian resort town of Sousse.

But organisers of the Moor Park 10k have revealed that 22 friends, colleagues and family members formed a team and took part in the huge fundraising event in Chris’ memory on Sunday.

Mr Dyer took part in the Moor Park 10k in 2014 and was said to be a keen marathon runner.

The popular fundraising event is held every year at Merchant Taylors’ School to raise money for the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre (LJMC).

Buzz Coster, marketing manager at the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre, said: “22 of his friends and colleagues and family formed a team and took part in the race last year and they came and ran in his memory, which was really special.

“We were very honoured they chose this event to honour him.

"Chris himself ran the event in 2014.”

A GoFundMe page set up in the aftermath of the attack has raised £12,514 for Dyer’s family.

The 32-year-old, who was a keen supporter of Watford FC, was shot in the head as both he and his wife, Gina Van Dort, 30, ran for cover. Ms Van Dort was shot under the chin and suffered severe injuries, but was flown back to the UK in late June.

Last year, 671 children took part in the junior fun-runs as the event raised more than £35,000 for charity.

This year’s event saw record breaking numbers of people getting involved, including 909 children, who took part in the Junior Fun Runs. 647 adults also took part in the main 10k event, which takes runners on a traffic free-route through the grounds of Merchant Taylors’ School.

Nigel Rackman came first in the men’s race while Helen Mussen claimed victory in the women’s race.

St Helen’s School in Northwood took the 2012 Shield home and this award was given out to the school who put the highest number of pupils forward to take part.

Ms Coster added: “A lot of schools got involved this year and we set up team villages for each of them, which allowed them to have their headquarters while here.

“It was great to see so many smiling faces and we have seen photographs of children taking their medals into school today [Monday], which is lovely.”

Race Organiser John Hambleton said: “Following the launch of the event at Moor Park Golf Course Mansion in July we had a hugely successful.

“Fine weather, fairground attractions and stalls including the Royal Navy Reserve from HMS Warrior made it a most enjoyable day out for families and runners.”
