A Watford nursery is "delighted" at being graded 'good' by Ofsted in its latest inspection.

The Co-operative Childcare Watford Junction, in Station Road, was rated last year as 'requires improvement' by the education regulator.

But during the inspection on August 13, Ofsted saw improvements after 11 months of staff team building and changes to the nursery's environment.

Inspectors reported Co-operative Childcare was good in all criteria, including how well the provision met the needs of children who attend the nursery, its contribution to the children's well-being and the effectiveness of leadership and management at the nursery.

Inspector Lynne Talbot said to further improve, the nursery should increase the opportunities for children to choose the resources they need during adult-led activities and to seek help when they need it.

She added that Co-operative Childcare should also provide more opportunities for children to consider and understand the need for safety when carrying out routine daily activities and during play.

Ms Talbot said in the report: "The well-qualified staff understand the learning and development requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. They accurately assess children's development and provide experiences that foster learning for all children."

Ms Talbot praised nursery staff for making good use of indoor and outdoor activities to encourage early communication and support the children's growing confidence.

And she said activities and staff support helps children to build the skills they need for school.

Ms Talbot said: "Children play a key role in their learning. Staff use information about younger children's interests to build a daily plan that meets every child's passion. Pre-school children take part in the 'children's council' to suggest activities. Children develop good self-esteem and are very self-assured.

"Staff use well-planned settling-in routines. Detailed care plans completed by parents help staff to fully support children's well-being.

"Leadership is strong and the management team's commitment to continuous improvement is evident. They review and critically evaluate their practice. Leaders frequently observe staff and give feedback to help them to reflect on their practice. Staff have diligently addressed all recommendations made at the last inspection."

Sarah Hurn, nursery manager, said the team would strive to make further improvements.

She said: "We were delighted with our Ofsted report. The whole team worked really hard to improve things. We done lots of team building and work to the rooms. We've had quality development training and we came in on a Saturday to throw out junk and make the rooms more inviting.

"We're going to continue this work, try to make things better all the time and make the environment better. We've got lots of new ideas to and we're going to keep pushing forward."
