A shopping centre has teamed up with a wildlife charity to raise money for charity.

intu and Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) have partnered to make the Big Birdhouse Tour, which is currently residing in intu Watford.

Exhibiting larger than life birdhouses individually designed by well-known British personalities to raise money for and awareness of the RSPB, the country-wide tour has visited 13 other destinations around the UK.

The tour includes 15 giant 5ft bird houses designed by celebrities to promote the Giving Nature a Home project, before being auctioned off to raise money for RSPB.

Bryan Bland, head of corporate partnerships at the RSPB, said: “Our partnership is a superb example of reaching out to people where they are and showcasing the relevance and importance of Giving Nature a Home.

"intu centres offer fantastic spaces to enable us to do something really fun and creative, and we hope to connect with people up and down the country to inspire and encourage them to connect with nature.”

Celebrities designing the birdhouses include Alex Jones, Becky Adlington, George Clarke, Graham Swift, Iwan Thomas, Jo Whiley, Konnie Huq, Miranda Krestovnikoff, Naomi Wilkinson, Richard Whitehead, Steve Backshall, Vic Reeves, Will Greenwood and The Beano Comic.

Trevor Pereira, commercial and digital director of intu, said: “This tour is all about creating a buzz around the nature that surrounds us in our own back gardens and countryside, inspiring people to look after the UK’s birds and wildlife so our towns, coasts and countryside are thriving with nature.”

The Big Birdhouse Tour officially started at intu Lakeside in Essex on Tuesday, July 14. It will reside at intu Watford until Sunday, November 1.
