A recipe book made up of villagers’ favourite culinary delights is in the making to help raise much-needed funds for a church extension.

Since the beginning of this year, members of St Lawrence Church in High Street, Abbots Langley have been holding fundraising events and initiatives to raise £65,000 for an extension on the north side of the church.

Their newest money raising idea is to get individuals and businesses in the village to contribute a variety of recipes to create an ‘Abbots Langley Village Recipe Book’.

The curate, Reverend David Warner, said: "We are incredibly excited at the response so far. Local children have drawn illustrations, High Street businesses have offered sponsorship and all sorts of recipes have been submitted.

"We are accepting contributions from individuals in the village, businesses and on behalf of village-based groups and societies so if you have something you would like to be included please send your recipe to us.

"We are very fortunate to have a professional designer working for us so we are confident that the final product will look fantastic.”

The majority of the income is expected from sales of the book which will be released in the lead up to Christmas.

Permission for the plans was granted earlier this year and the extension is estimated to cost £386,000.

The extension is currently in progress hopes to include disabled access, a meeting and social space, a kitchen and toilets.

It is largely being funded by money left by a former parishioner at the church, Elizabeth Hill, who died in April 2009 aged 85.

The deadline for entries is October 16. Recipes should be emailed to fundraising@abbotslangley.org.uk or sent to the church office in High Street, Abbots Langley, WD5 0AS.
