Bushey Museum has acquired a new portrait by celebrated artist Sir Hubert von Herkomer.
Herkomer, who ran an art school and lived in Bushey during the 1890s and early 1900s, painted the portrait of Thomas Mawson.
Mr Mawson designed parks and gardens for clients across the country and abroad in return for Mawson designing Rose Garden in Bushey, Herkomer painted his portrait.
Herkomer asked Mr Mawson to design Rose Garden in Bushey and in return painted his portrait.
The picture, which is now on a long-term loan from Mr Mawson’s great-grandchildren, will be exhibited at the museum.
