A BT engineer from Bushey is preparing to find himself in the deep stuff when he tackles a toilet-themed mud run for charity.

After taking part in the BBC 2 show Special Forces: Ultimate Hell Week, Alex Lacey was approached by WaterAid, a charity that improves access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation in developing countries.

WaterAid wanted the 36-year-old to put together a team for a race it holds to raise awareness of the lack of toilets in some countries - a race it calls Tough S***.

Mr Lacey will be taking part in the mud run, which will feature more than 20 obstacles over ten kilometres, with five contestants from the BBC show and one of the drill sergeants.

My Lacey said: “The Ultimate Hell week team are really excited to be taking part in Tough S***.

“I’ve done a lot of mud runs, but never before have I slid through a porta loo or been hit by some swinging bog brushes.

“It’s going to be all about working as a team and getting through each obstacles.”

During the race, the Ultimate Hell week team will have to work together to not only conquer the toilet toil, cross the floaters and survive the porta slide but also the bunged up bungee, s*** heap scramble and lots of u bends.

Mr Lacey, who recently took part in Push it for Peace, added: “It’s nice to be able to give something back to a charity and a great challenge.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun and at the same time we’ll be raising awareness for an important cause- a lack of loos.”

One in three people around the world do not have access to a decent toilet and have no choice but to go in the open.

This results in the spread of diarrhoeal diseases that kill more than 500,000 children every year.

The mud run will take place on October 24 in Surrey.
