Up to 1,000 golf clubs and garden tools were security marked by police in Bushey last weekend.

The event was organised by the Hertsmere Safer Neighbourhood team to ensure that if the items were ever stolen, that could easily be returned to the owners.

More than 900 golf clubs alone were marked at the event held at Bushey Golf and Country Club and Bushey Hall Golf Club.

Also on Sunday, tool marking events were held by the team at allotments in Windmill Lane, Merry Hill Road and Finch Lane.

PSCOs used UV pens to mark 35 tools and a number of allotment holders signed up to Neighbourhood Watch and the Online Watch Link (OWL) service.

The events were led by PCSOs Esther Ainsley and Carole Bull from the Bushey and Radlett Safer Neighbourhood Team, who said the event was a success.

Hertsmere Safer Neighbourhood Team Inspector, Richard Johnson said: "Security marking golf equipment and tools not only means we can reunite valuable stolen goods with their rightful owners but it also means we can link those criminals found in possession of them with a crime scene.

"This helps build a case against them and ultimately put them behind bars.

"We also encourage golfers to keep a record of serial numbers on their equipment and ideally also take photos as well and register them on the online property register."
