A proposal to move roads in the Meriden ward in Watford into the Stanborough ward has been shot down by the council.
The proposed ward boundary changes are looking to be implemented next year by the independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England to ensure everyone’s vote is worth the same.
But at a Watford Borough Council meeting on Wednesday, October 14, councillors said the planned change would lead to an unusual, figure-of-eight shape for the Stanborough ward.
They said it would create a strong sense of the Kytes Drive area being severed from the rest of the Stanborough ward and noted that the area had strong community links to the Meriden ward, most notably through the shared boundary with Garston Park.
They added this could be solved by adjusting the boundary to include some properties on the eastern side of St Albans Road within Meriden.
Elected Mayor of Watford Dorothy Thornhill said: "Although most of the changes may be relatively minor, it is worth going online to see if they’ll affect you."
Changes are also proposed for the Leggatts, Woodside, Nascot, Holywell, Vicarage, Central. Oxhey, Park and Tudor wards.
