The Watford Health Campus project will begin a final period of consultation next week before plans are submitted to the local authority for their consideration.

On Monday, Watford MP Claire Ward will launch the scheme's masterplan in Westminster along with representatives from the nine partners involved with it.

The plans will then go on public display before a planning application is made to Watford Borough Council in July.

The campus, expected to cost £1bn, will combine the Watford General site with the Cardiff Road industrial estate, and include a new 510-bed acute hospital, the redevelopment of Watford FC's Vicarage Road stadium, a hotel, a conference facility, and more than 300 new homes.

There will also be small business units and larger commercial spaces to house bigger health related companies on the 26.5 acre site.

It is hoped access to the site will be via a new road from Dalton Way at Bushey Arches.

The first public consultation event will take place in The Harlequin shopping centre, Watford, on Wednesday and Thursday.

Events have also been scheduled at Hemel Hempstead and St Albans later in the month. The proposals can also be viewed at www.watfordhealthcampus.org.

The nine organisations with a stake in the project are the East of England Strategic Health Authority, the East of England Development Agency, Hertfordshire County Council, Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Trust, Hertfordshire Prosperity, Watford Borough Council, West Hertfordshire Primary Care Trust, Watford FC and the hospitals trust.
