The record for a popular road race was smashed for a second year in a row as more than 500 raised cash for charity0.

The 10-mile Ricky Road Run returned to Rickmansworth on Sunday, October 25, with more than 500 runners taking part in the annual race.

Now in it’s 32 year, cash raised during the popular road race will go towards Rickmansworth-based charity Watford Mencap, as well as WaterAid and KitAid.

For the second year in a row, the record for the quickest time was broken, with Mark Harris blowing away the rest of field in a time of 55 minutes and 23 seconds.

Mr Harris, from Team Trisports, broke the 56 minute and 21 seconds record set by Paul Adams, from St Albans Striders running club, last year.

He lead the race by over two minutes.

Rickmansworth Road Run Project Manager, Rohan Dickinson said: “The Ricky Road Run is a fantastic event and it has been a privilege to be involved in organising the run for its 32nd year.

“The team worked very well together and the marshals who volunteered their time were all fantastic ensuring a great event.

“I would also like to thank the support given to us by our sponsors and partners who made the logistics of the day possible. I am very pleased that we could raise a significant amount of money for some great causes.”

The Ricky Road Run was founded in 1984 as part of the centenary for what was then known as Rickmansworth Water Company.

It has been organised by the water company every year since, and is now run by graduates on the company’s training programme.

Runners left the Chorleywood Working Men’s Club just after 10.30am before completing a 10-mile course through the streets of Rickmansworth and Chorleywood.

The event has raised more than £350,000 for WaterAid, Kit Aid and other charities in south west Hertfordshire over the last 31 years.
