A campaign to create a community council for the unparished wards in Three Rivers has stepped up a notch after a petition was presented to the chief executive of the council.

A petition, which has been signed by more than 1,800 people, was presented to Steven Halls, chief executive of Three Rivers District Council on Thursday, October 29.

The year-and-a-half long campaign is looking to create a community council for Moor Park and Eastbury, Rickmansworth Town, Penn and Mill End and the Maple Cross, Heronsgate and West Hyde parts of Chorleywood South.

The 4Wards campaign chairman Miles Hosking said: “We are very grateful for the fantastic support given to us by local residents throughout the campaign.

“We passionately feel that a community council will give us a much bigger say in what happens in our community and will bring us into line with all the other areas in Three Rivers who already have a Parish Council to represent them.”

Mr Hosking added that Three Rivers District Council will now undertake a governance review to establish whether a community council should be set up.

This can take up to a year and is likely to a public consultation, which may include a referendum, before the council decides whether a new community council can be set up.
