A group of churches in north Watford have organised weekend activities for families with children aged five to 10.

The 'lift off' project includes film and games nights, a Saturday morning 'messy breakfast' and a garden for the children to learn about growing their own fruit and vegetables.

Claire Locke, who runs the the project explains, said: "Families have told us it is difficult to find fun, child focused, affordable activities at the weekend.

"Lift off has been developed to help families access quality activities and spend time together.

"The project is promoted by the Church and is about bringing communities together and promoting caring for others. Special events will be available to help families celebrate key events on the Christian Calendar such as Easter and Christmas."

Kelly Boswell and her family attend a variety of activities.

She said: "It’s great, one of the few times we can all get together as a family with fun activities for the children. The new garden will help them understand how to grow fruit and vegetables and the importance of healthy eating."

The Big Lottery funded project is open to people regardless of faith. Mums, dads and grandparents are all welcome.

The project is also looking for volunteers of all ages to help, opportunities range from making tea to supervising activities. Students looking for Duke of Edinburgh volunteering experience are also welcome and training and support is available.
