Residents can get their skates on at the Watford town centre outdoor ice rink from Saturday.

The Big Skate, which last year saw more than 16,000 take to the ice, will open at 11am.

The rink will be bigger than last year and will be decorated with Christmas trees and fairy lights.

Skaters and viewers can warm themselves up with a hot drink at the ski lodge café at the rink.

To mark the opening day, the Birmingham Ice Freestylers will be entertaining with their ice acrobatics throughout the day and have planned a special performance at 4.45pm.

Elected Mayor of Watford Dorothy Thornhill said: "People loved the rink last year and made it clear they wanted it back.

"We asked people what we could do better this time – they wanted it to be a bit bigger and to look a lot more Christmassy.

"So, we’re doing just that! Having this talented group in Watford to entertain people and celebrate the opening of the rink is really the icing on the cake."
