Supports came together to help raise money for macular degeneration research during a coffee afternoon.

On November 20, Joan Brooks, 95, from Radlett, hosted a coffee afternoon at the Vision Hall at Christ Church in Radlett.

As a sufferer of macular degeneration, Mrs Brooks has organised several events in previous years to help fund research into age-related macular degeneration at Hillingdon Hospital where she is treated.

Mrs Brooks said: “I am delighted that my friends rallied round and helped keep the fundraising going for this important research.”

Last year, Mrs Brooks said that the event was to be her last but her friends in the Visually Impaired Club (VIC) and the REBS Talking Newspaper did not want Joan’s efforts to stop.

With her support and guidance, Sasha Capocci, one of the leaders of the VIC took charge of the event.

A representative from Hillingdon Hospital told the crowd how well appreciated Mrs Brooks’ fundraising has been and how last year’s funds had bought diagnosis equipment for the hospital.

The event raised £2,000 for the hospital's research work.
