Heurelho Gomes says he “will be fine” and has thanked the Watford and Aston Villa medical staff for the treatment he received following his injury in today’s 3-2 victory at Villa Park.
The Hornets goalkeeper required lengthy attention in the second half following a collision with Craig Cathcart’s knee before he was taken from the pitch on a stretcher wearing an oxygen mask.
Concern about the Brazilian shot stopper's condition continued after the match until Watford were able to confirm that Gomes had been given the all-clear after a precautionary scan on a suspected neck injury and would be returning home with his teammates.
In a series of four tweets this evening, Gomes said: “Hi everyone, thanks for the messages, really appreciate I’m much better now, my neck still very stiff, but I will be fine! On my way home!
“Special thanks to our medical staff, and also Villa’s medical staff for the great treatment that I had received.
“Well done team that did fight until last second of the game, and also to Arlauskis that came on in a very difficult game! Great result!
“The fans were amazing as usual! Thanks for your support!”
