The final recommendations for Watford Borough Council's new electoral ward boundaries are set to go before parliament.

The Local Government Boundary Commission for England has published the recommendations following an eight-week public consultation.

In response to representations for the council, councillors, residents and community groups the commission has changed its draft recommendations.

The Kytes Drive area will be part of Meriden ward rather than Stanborough ward as previously proposed.

It also changed its recommendation that the whole of the Greenbank Road area is part of the Nascot ward rather than part of it being included in Leggatts ward.

But Watford will keep its current arrangement of 36 councillors representing 12 three-member wards across the borough.

The new arrangements will come into force at the council elections in 2016.

Max Caller, chairman of the commission, said: “We are extremely grateful to people across Watford who took the time and effort to send us their views. The Commission considered every piece of evidence it received before finalising these recommendations.

“Across the borough, we have sought to balance the views expressed to us by local people with the criteria we must apply when we are deciding on new electoral arrangements. As such, we believe these recommendations deliver electoral equality for voters as well as reflecting the identities of communities in Watford.”

Elected Mayor of Watford, Baroness Dorothy Thornhill, said: "The Electoral Commission have to make sure that wards remain the same size to keep equality for Watford residents in council elections. I am pleased that they have listened to local residents' comments, as well as taking on board the council's recommendations. The new ward boundaries are not only fair but also logical, keeping communities together.”
